The Jayco Herald Sun Tour will return in February 2015. Now in its 62nd edition, the Jayco Herald Sun Tour is Australia’s oldest stage race. It is one of Australia’s heritage sporting events, supported and revered by generations of Victorians and created by Australia’s largest daily newspaper, the Herald Sun.
For almost sixty years, the ‘Sun Tour’ has captured the attention of sports fans throughout Victoria. Riders from around the world compete in the Tour, with a long distinguished list of past winners.
With its new dates in 2015, Wednesday 4th to Sunday 8th of February, the iconic event will once again be a UCI international level event and complete the Australian Summer of Cycling.
The 2015 Tour will start on Southbank Promenade with a lung-bursting 2.1km prologue, an event which attracted 25,000 spectators this year.
The Tour then moves to regional Victoria for the longest stage, a 152km hike from Mount Macedon, past Hanging Rock, before finishing in Bendigo.
Stage two is a shorter 120km route from Bendigo Velodrome, through the Heathcote-Graytown National Park and across the Goulburn River into Nagambie.
The 148km stage three route showcases the Nagambie Lakes as riders loop around Mitchelton Winery, where the stage will begin, before heading back to Nagambie.
The final 125km stage will return to Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula, where the Tour culminates with an explosive finale.
As a result of the collaboration and support of the City of Greater Bendigo, riders will complete one and a half laps of the Tom Flood Sports Centre in the city centre, mirroring the finish of the Paris-Roubaix in what historians suggest will be the first velodrome stage finish of the ‘Sun Tour’ since 1957.
